CIVIL WAR TO INDIAN WAR HORSE GEAR.

1) BIT. A nice example of a M1863 artillery bit. Bit shows brass “US” bosses on either side secured by rivets. Inside of bit is boldly stamped “US WATERVLIET” & “U.S ARSENAL”. CONDITION: bit shows use but no damage.
2) BIT. An Indian War period Shoemaker bit. Bit has sm. brass rnd. “US” bosses riveted to either side. Bit is stamped on 1 side, “ROCK ISLAND”. CONDITION: bit shows use but no damage.
3) GIRTH. An early M1874 girth for a McClellan saddle. Girth measures approx. 23 3/4" x 6". All buckles & loops are present. Material is colored blue w/ 2 natural stripes. CONDITION: girth shows significant wear but remains solid w/ no tears to material.
4) CARBINE CUP. A Civil War period cavalry carbine socket or cup. Rnd. leather cup has the appropriate buckle & strap. CONDITION: light wear.
5) CARBINE BOOT. A M1885 cavalry carbine boot. Boot has the upper & lower buckled strap intact along w/ the top strap. Boot is marked, “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL” & stamped, “D / 12 / 6”. CONDITION: boot shows light wear. Straps are solid but a bit flaked.
6 & 7) BITS. 2 M1885 watering bits. Bits have a blued finish & are complete w/ associated leather straps. CONDITION: most of the bluing remains on the bits. Straps are dry but solid.
8) SURCINGLE. A M1885 cavalry surcingle. Length is approx. 78". Surcingle has complete full length leather tongue & correct buckle on the other end. The woven cloth center shows an interesting woven pattern. CONDITION: cloth is complete but there is significant rodent damage about in the center that would need repair. Leather is strong but lightly flaked.
9) SABER HANGER. A M1885 cavalry saber hanger. All straps & brass are present. CONDITION: brass has a rich, dark patina. Straps show light wear w/ some flaking. (02-15751/BF). $800-1,000.
