Cal. 45 Colt. S# 18509. Left side of frame has 2 line patent date followed by "U.S." marking. Frame, trigger guard & grip strap have matching S#'s. Trigger guard has "O" inspectors mark from 1895 refinish. Hammer slot has "C" inspector mark (A. P. Casey, sub inspector at Springfield). 6 Shot fluted cyl. w/ inspector initial "J" on side & "N" on rear, has no visible S#. 7 1/2" Bbl. w/ 1 line Hartford marking is a recent replacement w/ S# "8509", bottom of bbl. has "CP" inspectors mark. Later replacement ejector housing w/ bullseye ejector head. Poorly fit replacement walnut grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter providing the following information "Serial Number: 18509 / Caliber: .45/c / Barrel Length: Not Listed / Finish: Blue / Type of Stocks: Not Listed / Sold To: United States Government / Delivered To: U.S. Government Inspector / Address: located at the Colt plant / Date of Shipment: October 18, 1895 / Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 200 / Remarks: The original records pertaining to this revolver were lost or destroyed many years ago. However, our records do indicate the return of this revolver for refurbishing and subsequent reshipment as noted above. The refurbishing consisted of replacement of worn parts, exterior refinishing and reassembly. The barrels of these revolvers were not shortened". CONDITION: frame, cyl. & grip straps show heavy polishing w/ worn & thinning reblued finish. Frame markings are weakened & partially removed. Cold blued ejector housing shows spots of remaining original nickel finish. Bbl. retains 80% dull lightly faded reblued finish w/ markings that appear to be recut. Dark lightly pitted bore retaining largely intact rifling. Grips have artificially darkened appearance. (01-19880/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
