REVOLVER. Cal. 44. S# 11866. Bbl 8". Model 1860 Army manufactured by Colt in 1861. Top of barrel bears Colt's single line address, with "COLTS/ PATENT" on the left side of the frame. Brass trigger guard with notched iron grip strap for a detachable stock accessory. 1 piece smooth wood grip. Barrel wedge screw and several frame screws have been replaced. All numbers are matching and include the frame, wedge, barrel, trigger guard, and rear grip strap. Cylinder serial number is mostly illegible, but appears to match. Wedge screw, front trigger guard screw, and 3 frame screws are replacements. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Springfield Research indicating closest match as issuance of this revolver to Company G of the 13th New York Volunteer Cavalry (also known as the Seymour Light Cavalry), who was organized on June 20th of 1863. The regiment was comprised of 6 companies and saw its first service during the Pennsylvania campaign in June and July of 1863, distinguishing itself via the destruction of the enemy's pontoon bridges and train at Falling Waters. The regiment saw its most intense fighting at Aldie, VA, where 24 troops were killed, wounded and missing; at Piedmont, with 42 killed, wounded and missing; and at Lewinsville, with 20 killed, wounded and missing. CONDITION: iron components exhibits a mottled gray/brown patina with moderate surface oxidation overall. Dark bore, exhibiting good rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered marks and some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Left side of rear grip strap is slightly warped at the rear of the frame, but doesn't appear to effect serviceability. (01-24136/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
