SHIPPED TO SMITH & WESSON FOR REMINGTON, WITH FACTORY LETTER. Cal. 38 Rimless. S# 42998. Bbl. 5 7/8". Model 1902 Military semi-automatic pistol, mfg. by Colt in 1920. Left side of the slide is marked with Colt's patent and mfg. information, followed by the Rampant Colt logo at the rear, with "AUTOMATIC COLT/ CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" marked on the right. Let side of the frame is marked with the S#, with Colt's "VP" proof stamped on the forward trigger guard web. Metal components exhibit a reapplied nickel-plated finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece Colt checkered black hard rubber grips. Interior of left grip panel is inscribed, with most text no longer remaining legible. Half-moon blade front sight, with U-notch rear sight. Matching numbers are present on the frame and slide. MAGS: one blued 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter indicating that this example was shipped with blue finish (type of stocks not listed) and was one of two 1902 pistols sold to Remington Arms Company and shipped to Smith & Wesson Company on October 25th of 1928. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their reapplied nickel-plated finish, exhibiting scattered areas of bubbling, flaking, and oxidation, with areas of pitting beneath the finish present overall. Dark bore, exhibiting consistent dark pitting while retaining good rifling throughout. Grips show smoothing, as well as some scattered marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. (24-4984/MLW). CURIO. $500-1,000.
