REVOLVER, ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM HENRY STONER WITH PROVENANCE. Cal. 45 Colt. S# 33084. Bbl. 5 1/2". U.S. Model of 1909 double action revolver mfg. by Colt in 1911. Left side of the bbl. is marked "COLT. D.A. 45", with Colt's mfg. and patent information stamped across the top, as well as "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" across the bottom. Left side of frame is marked with the Rampant Colt intertwined with a stylized "C" logo. Butt is stamped "U.S./ ARMY/ MODEL/ 1909/ No/ 33/ 084". Right side of frame, underside of bbl. & grips, as well as the rear face of the cyl. exhibit an "R.A.C." (Rinaldo. A. Carr) inspection proof. Metal components exhibit a lustrous blue finish finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece smooth wood grips. All numbers are matching and include the frame (butt and interior), cyl. crane, and cyl. latch. Grips are matching via the full serial number, which is handwritten in pencil on the interior of the panels. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letters from David L. Szmykowiak regarding this revolver, as well as a letter from the son of William Henry Stoner that reads ""To Whom It May Concern, The above described military piece was issued to and carried by one William H. Stoner, Deceased, and appearing in the below, Brief, obituary. The weapon as accounted by WM H. to family members, was issued to him during a term of service in the Mexican Border Campaign in the year of 1916. Wm H. continued on to serve in France during the period of World War I. He had been a member of Ohio's 37th Division and attained the rank of sergeant. Wm H. was born in Bowling Green, Ohio February 23rd 1893./ (OBITUARY)/ This information has been furnished by William P. Stoner, son of Wm H., and same information is accurate and true to the best of my knowledge.". CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning overall that show through to gray and brown patinas, with some scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Mirror bore, exhibiting strong rifling throughout, with a couple spots of mild to moderate pitting towards the muzzle. Grips show scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker.
