The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs (CTWS) is pleased to announce its second public California bighorn sheep auction permit. This lifetime opportunity will allow a hunter the chance to pursue game over nearly 200,000 acres of beautiful sheep country. Wild sheep on the Reservation are a true success story to a once extirpated population. The Mutton Mountain sheep herd of Warm Springs was reestablished in 2002 with an initial population of 20 sheep. Successful Tribal management has led to a band of sheep now 300 strong. These animals continue to grow with the largest ram harvested on the Reservation in 2015 scoring nearly 185.” Last year’s auction tag hunter successfully bagged a 181 6/8” ram on the second day of his hunt. He reported seeing 80 rams on the first day, more rams spotted in a single day of hunting than his 8 previous sheep hunts combined. This hunt will not disappoint.
Proceeds of this permit will be used to aid CTWS in wildlife management and conservation, uphold their Integrated Resource Management Plan, provide for habitat improvement efforts, and ensure these resources for future generations through limited and sustainable hunt and harvest.
Based on a 10-day hunt, the successful bidder may hunt any California bighorn ram from August 1, 2025 to November 31, 2025. An additional guide fee will cover Tribal guide services. A preferred outfitter of choice can be hired, but the outfitter must work with CTWS and our Tribal member guides. All hunters must comply with the rules and regulations outlined in the CTWS hunting regulations and the CTWS Hunting and Trapping Code 350 and other CTWS Tribal Law and Policy.
We would like to thank Timothy Haught for his 2024 auction hunt purchase. His contribution is going towards sound wildlife management and conservation efforts that will benefit wild sheep, and Warm Springs ecology as a whole.
