CUSTOM POST-WAR AMERICAN EAGLE WALTHER .45 ACP
P.38 AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH CASE. Cal, FORMER WARREN BUXTON COLLECTION. 11.25mm. S# S3. Bbl. 5". A very intriguing Post-War P.38 pistol modified to fire .45 ACP ammunition via the cutting and widening of the slide bridge, as well as the addition of a new .45 ACP bbl. The slide and frame markings have been wonderfully restamped, with the right side of the slide also exhibiting the Great Seal of the United States, as would be found over the chambers of DWM Model 1900 & 1906 American Eagle Lugers. Metal components exhibit a lustrous high polished reapplied blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black plastic grips. 1911 pattern mag. has been converted for use with the P.38 platform and is marked "11.25mm" on the bottom of the floorplate. Grip screw has been cut at the center to allow clearance for the mag. MAGS: 1 7-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: blue leatherette Walther presentation case. CONDITION: excellent, with metal components retaining bountiful amounts of their reapplied lustrous blue finish overall, exhibiting a few minor superficial handling marks, as well as some areas of pitting present beneath the finish. Sides of slide exhibit hardening and machining lines on either side of the slide bridge. Brilliant mirror bore, exhibiting sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some superficial handling marks, but otherwise are very good overall. Leatherette case shows some light exterior wear from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Edward Scott Meadows. (24-725/MLW). MODERN. $3,000-5,000.
