Chinese Type 56 'Vietnam Capture' 7.62x39mm
SN: 12342195. Vietnam War capture Gun. Patterned directly after the Russian SKS infantry rifle, the Chinese Type 56 was among the assortment of small arms fielded by the main line and irregular elements of North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. This SKS was manufactured in 1967. Post front and tangent rear sights, with the left side of the receiver showing the "26" in triangle factory mark. (Jiansh factory 26), 3 Chinese letters meaning "type 56", and the serial number, other serial numbers are mismatched. Folding bayonet, bore is very good. Overall very good condition, Of course no import marks. This is from the estate of Capt. Harold C. Brown, Jr. USAF, who was a fighter pilot and the ALO (Air Liaison Officer) with the Army's 1st Air Cavalry Division, who sent this rifle home in 1969. We contacted Mrs. Brown to try to acquire the capture papers, who if she finds them she will send them to us, in turn we will pass it on to the buyer. She did state in an email to us that Capt. Brown sent two rifles back from Vietnam, stating "One of the rifles has a Viet Cong name carved into it". Copy provided. The other rifle is also a Chinese Type 56 SKS, which is in this action. Please see this lot for the full story. Even without the capture papers this rifle has impeccable provenance. Comes with the original shipping crate. Has a Northwest Orient shipping label, which has a U.S. contract during the Vietnam War. NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
