Civil War Era Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model Army Revolver, #16784, .32 Long RF cal., 6'' tip-up octagonal barrel with blade front sight, marked with maker's name and address on top rib, has an upper hinge and lower latch; round 6-shot cylinder has 1855-59-60 patent dates along its circumference; solid frame has top cylinder stop spring with notched rear sight, integral spurtrigger sheath and gripstraps; two-piece varnished rosewood grips. Mfg'd ca. 1861-74, originally with full nickel plate finish. Condition is very good+ overall retaining approx. 95% original bright nickel, with losses mainly confined to barrel hinge, left topstrap and left sideplate. Grips are smooth and fit well with nice color and approx. 97% of what may be a later finish. Action is strong and smooth; bore is bright with light frosting toward muzzle and sharp rifling; barrel hinge and latch are secure; all edges and markings are sharp. A favorite of Civil War officers and soldiers. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
