Civil War Model 1860 Enlisted Cavalry Sword, by Emerson & Silver. The 34-3/4'' blade has one narrow and one wide fuller, marked at ricasso with inspector's stamps ''U.S., D.F.M.'', and on the other side is a partial maker's stamp of Emerson & Silver of Trenton, New Jersey. The original leather blade washer is present. The three-branch guard is made of solid brass with a brass pommel cap. Grip is grooved wood with thin leather covering and wrapped with a twisted brass wire. Scabbard is steel with two hanging rings. Condition is good with the blade showing scattered rust stains, age graying, and minor pinprick pitting in a few areas. There are no edge nicks. The guard is a bit mis-shapened and bent, but has a pleasing dark patina, having not been cleaned or polished for many years. Handle is nice and tight. Wood grip has some lengthwise cracks and shows losses to the leather covering. All the twisted wire wrapping is intact and tight. Scabbard has been chrome plated and the majority of the chrome has peeled off, with the bare polished metal showing underneath. OAL is 42-1/2''. Est.: $300-$600.
