Civil War Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model Army Revolver, in Pelson case, #27412, .32 Long RF cal., 6'' octagonal tip-up barrel marked with maker's name and address on full-length top rib, has top hinge and bottom latch; round 6-shot cylinder has 1855-59-60 patent dates on circumference and ''2'' between each locking slot; solid frame has 3-pin topstrap with spring-actuated cylinder stop, integral spurtrigger sheath and gripstraps, two-piece varnished rosewood grips having vacant rectangular German-silver plate on left side. Backstrap is engraved in fancy script ''R.B.F.'' Mfg'd ca. 1861-74, originally with full-blued finish. Condition is very good+, showing an overall bluish- gunmetal gray with generous traces of original blue in protected areas. Grips are sound and retain most original varnish. Sharp edges and markings; action is smooth; bore is bright showing sharp rifling and scattered erosion. Modern-era case paved with black leatherette has bevel-edge top, brass hinges and closures, is lined in wine velveteen with deep-purple trim, varnished wood cartridge block. Est.: $800-$1,200.
