Antique Civil War Era Spencer Model 1865 Saddle Ring Carbine, #3475, .50 RF cal., 20'' round barrel with carbine sights, marked ''M 1865'' at breech; steel receiver has serpentine operating lever-trigger guard that drops breech for cartridge loading/extraction, has right-side back-action hammer, left-side sling ring and bar, Stabler trigger cut-off device (converts action to single-shot), marked with maker's name, address and 1860 patent date at top breech and ''3475'' behind; two-piece oil-stained walnut stocks, the forend with single barrel band, the buttstock with curved iron buttplate having a sliding door opening to central cartridge magazine tube, and a sling swivel at belly. Mfg'd ca. 1865-66, originally with blued barrel, case hardened receiver, barrel band and buttplate. Condition is very good. Metal surfaces retain no original finish (occasional flashes of blue in protected places and case hardening on internals), but an overall aged dark gunmetal-brown with scattered light roughness/pitting. Stocks are sound and smooth showing minimal marks and a secure 2'' crack at left forend at frame juncture. Edges and markings are good; action is strong and smooth; bore is bright having scattered erosion and sharp rifling. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (Antique)
