SN: 705043 Pistol. Semi-Automatic. U.S. Military issued pistol manufactured in 1924. "Transitional" Model. In 1923 Springfield Armory awarded a contract to Colt for the manufacture of 10,000 improved Pistols (Ser#'s 700001 to 710000 ) Shortened hammer, extended grip safety, Create a bump on the mainspring housing, cut back, and knurl the trigger face. and mill finger clearance cuts on the sides of receiver behind the trigger. The model designation wouldn't change A1 until 3 years later. Magazine fed, short recoil. 5" Barrel. Slide mounted front blade and U-notch rear sights. Blued metal finish. Grip safety. Lanyard ring. Barrel stamped "HP" Right frame stamped , to the rear of the slide stop pin is "United States Property" with the serial number below it. Right side of slide is stamped "Model of 1911 U.S. Army". Left side of frame is stamped with the 2-line patent dates, a "Rampant Colt", and Colts 2-line address. No serial number on slide. "WTG" enclosed within a double circle stamped below slide catch lever. (Walter T. Gordon, Captain) Brown checkered plastic are reinforced . Bore appears a little rough, but has strong rifling. Slide action is smooth/tight. Metal finish is about 30% with handling loss. 2 inventory numbers are stenciled in red and green paint on the grips. Comes with original unmarked magazine with lanyard ring. NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
