Colt 1st Gen. Single Action Army Revolver, #353726, .44-40 cal., 5.5'' barrel, nickel finish, stag grips, in purple-lined Moroccan leather Pelson case. Mfg'd 1929. Bottom of frame is marked ''S'' just above serial number indicating this is a Stembridge movie gun that was no doubt used in many 1930s-1950s western movies and TV shows. Interestingly enough, revolver shows no indication of being fired with studio blanks, which were corrosive and left a heavy residue. Revolver remains in fine condition retaining approx. 80%-85% original Colt nickel finish, with most of the losses as flaking to top of ejector rod, and the only replacement parts being a later production blued cylinder arbor and a blue ejector rod screw. Stag grips fit well but not completely flush with backstrap. Action is very good but as common to many of these type pistols, the safety notch does not consistently engage. Cylinder lockup is very good, bore is fine. Additional research would prove interesting as the Stembridge Gun Rental Co. is still in business and keeps many of their old records. 1970's era Pelson case is in very good condition showing handling marks to the exterior; interior with impressions from the revolver's cylinder. Est.: $4,000-$6,000. (C&R/PPT)
