Colt Bankers Special .38 cal. DA revolver, 2" barrel, blue finish, ivory grips, factory inscribed PPD no 43 on butt, shipped to City of Plainfield, New Jersey, c/o J. J. Flynn, Chief of Police, September 30, 1929, to order #17294/4, four guns in shipment, serial #333458. The Colt remains in fine to excellent original condition showing 96-98% bright original blue, some very slight losses on the high points and edges, minor evidence of operation and slight use. The action is crisp, the bore excellent, the markings sharp; the ivory grips fit well and show age. The pistol is contained within a Detectives Special marked, Police Positive end labeled2" box, which shows correct penciled serial number on bottom. The box is in good to very good condition. Factory and Police inscribed Bankers Specials are scarce and collectible, and we believe this to be one of four thatwere so marked. We guarantee letters and description as we sold this lot in 2012 but factory letter is not available at the time of cataloging. (C&R/PPT) Est.: $1,500-$3,000
