SN: 860635. Swartz Safety.1943 production. Rare variation Model 1911A1 semi-automatic pistol that was manufactured by Colt Firearms in early 1943 and was one of few pistols assembled by Colt for military contract using commercial parts that had been left over after commercial production ended for the war effort. Both commercial and military roll marks on the slide. A limited number of slides transferred. This pistol has the Swartz Safety, It is a safety that blocks the firing pin from moving forward. When you grasp the the pistol, the grip safety raises the rod that moves the block out of the way of the firing pin, Therefore, this safety does not affect the trigger pull. With slide removed, has the correct hole marked "S" ( Civilian Sales) on top of the frame, next to the disconnector, corresponding hole in the slide, which can been seen under the firing pin hole with the slide locked back. Pins & plunger have been removed, slot for plunger is in the underside of slide. Features a 5" barrel, low-profile round blade front sight, dovetailed 'v' notched rear sight, smooth trigger, knurled wide hammer spur, manual safety on the left side of the frame, grip safety, push button magazine release, "UNITED STATED PROPERTY" marked frame with "G.H.D." inspector stamp, (Brig. General Guy H. Drewry) "M1911A1 U.S. Army" on right frame, knurled arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop and two piece reinforced brown plastic 'Coltwood' grips. The slide is marked "PATENTED APR 20,1897.SEPT. 9,1902/DEC19,1905. FEB.14,1911. AUG.19,1913," "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO./HARTFORD,CT. U.S.A." on the left side & "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 45" followed by the 'Rampant Colt' on the right slide. Rear of slide marked "860 / 213" under firing pin stop. "P" stamped on the top of the slide, and left frame on the right side. "R" & triangle stamped on the left triggerguard. Very faint crossed cannons ordnance stamp. Barrel marked with the large "G", "COLT 45 AUTO" on left side, "P" on left side of barrel feet. Magazine stamped "Colt .45 Auto".The pistol has about 94% of its original parkerized finish with holster/edge wear, minor scratches, grips are excellent, bore is very good/bright with some frosting in the grooves. Marking are crisp/clear, except the Ordnance stamp.
