Colt New Service U.S. Army Model 1917 cut-away revolver, .45 caliber, Serial #163133. Formerly in the Robert Petersen Collection, the pistol retains the majority of its blued finish with a 4 ½” barrel, while the frame is unfinished. The barrel has some light surface erosion noted and is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on the underside. The lanyard ring is retained in the butt. Per the consignor’s notes, thepistol has no military inspector marks. Originally from the Philip R. Phillips Collection, the pistol was later in the Robert Petersen Collection and sold at auction Through Little John’s on November 9,2003, when it was purchased by the consigner. He indicates the unused 1917 barrel came from the Colt factory as spare parts and was added to the revolver at a later date. A key piece for the New Service Collector from the Gil Newton Collection. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
