Colt New Service revolver, .38 Special caliber, Serial #335095. The pistol is in fine to nearly excellent overall condition with a 4” barrel. The pistol retains approximately 95% of its original factoryblue with slight wear at the muzzle and a faint drag line. The checkered wood silver medallion grips are in fine condition with sharp checkering and light handling marks. The bore is very good, the action crisp andmarkings are sharp. According to Colt New Service Revolvers, by Bob Murphy, Colt introduced the .38 Special chambering for the New Service in 1931 and the caliber was listed in the 1932 catalog. The consignornotes that this revolver was assembled on May 19, 1932 and shipped to Kennedy Bros., Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 15, 1932. According to Murphy, early shipments of the New Service chambered in .38 Special went to entities like the Pennsylvania State Police, Tennessee Valley Authority and United States Immigration Border Patrol. An interesting and rare combination of barrel length and caliber from the Gil Newton Collection.
