Colt factory engraved Sheriff’s Model SAA revolver, .45 caliber, 4” barrel, S/N 117011, blued finish, period ivory grips in overall very good condition displaying a heavy un-cleaned even dark patina to metal surfaces, crisp action,overall good bore with beautiful grips in very good condition displaying typical age cracklature to the butt area. Accompanied by a copy of a 1984-dated Colt factory letter sent to noted collector, the late Joe Kiser, confirming features including factory engraving with Type of Stocks “Not Listed”; shipped to Schoverling, Daly & Gales in New York, NY on January 12, 1886; 1 gun in shipment. Also included is a copy of a 3 page letter written by Colt author and expert, RonGraham, dated 1992, describing the gun as “C” style engraved, first style “fluted frame” while commenting on the rarity of Sheriff’s Models. An excerpt from the Wilkerson’s and Hoyt book “The Official Record of the Colt Single Action ArmyRevolver 1873-1895” indicates their research found records of only 7 four inch, blued, stocks “Not Listed” Sheriff’s Models produced in the serial number range of 1-164,100.
