Commemorative ''Stonewall Jackson'' First Model LeMat Percussion-Grape Shot Civil War Revolver, by American Historical Foundation (mfg'd. by Uberti), #045 on butt, 9-shot cylinder, .44 cap-and-ball cal., 6.5'' octagonal barrel marked in Old English letters ''In Honor Of / Gen. Thomas J, Jackson, C.S.A.'' on right flat, over a 16-gauge round buckshot barrel. Barrels, frame, triggerguard and grip straps finished in full silver plate; jointed side-mounted loading lever, cylinder, trigger and lanyard ring are gold plated, hammer is case hardened. Barrel muzzle, breech and lug sides are lavishly etched and lightly background gilded in a fine oak leaf pattern with crossed cannons on right side and ''CSA'' on left; shot barrel marked ''Draw the Sword / and Throw Away the Scabbard'' on left side and with a scrolling quatrefoil ribbon; cylinder etched with Civil War drum, bugle, cross, Confederate flag, C.S.A. seal and significant battle sites. Checkered and carved 2-piece walnut grips. This unique sidearm was developed in New Orleans in 1856 by Jean Alexandre LeMat, whose manufacturing effort was backed by P.G.T. Beauregard, later a general in the Confederate States Army. It is estimated that 2,900 were produced in LiŠge and Paris. These European-made pistols were shipped through Birmingham, England, where they were proofmarked; approx. 900 revolvers were shipped to the Confederate States Army and 600 to the Confederate States Navy through Bermuda to avoid the Southern Naval Blockade. Stonewall Jackson carried a Le Mat as his personal sidearm. Condition is as new, unfired with cylinder unturned, retaining all factory finishes with slight toning to silver plated components; bores are as new. Action is tight and needs a thorough cleaning, perhaps made as a non-firing replica. The original offering price was several thousand dollars. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (No FFL Required)
