DESIRABLE 1878 Sharps Borchardt Long Range 45 2-4/10  Nickel Finished Rifle
Made by Sharps Rifle Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1879. Sharps research does not have any entry for this serial number other than an approximate production date. This rifle is the standard long range configuration with a 34" tapered round barrel with "New Model" Wind gage front sight, no rear sight provision and long range tang Vernier sight measuring 5-1/4" from top to pivot point. Barrel is marked with "Old Reliable" stamping and Sharps Bridgeport address, and 45 - 2-4/10" caliber. Barrel is interestingly marked under forearm with "3" script "L's", 17209 serial number and initials "D.M.N.". Action is nickel plated with fire blued screws and has the detachable tang and Bakelite filled side panels and serrated single set trigger. American walnut checkered pistol grip stock with comb single tang, Sharps hard rubber grip cap and checkered butt plate. Matching walnut forearm numbered to gun with ebony tip and Tenon wedge fastener. J.T. Livengood Collection. CALIBER: 45 - 2-4/10. S/N: 17209. FFL STATUS: Antique.
CONDITION
Retains 95% original finish with light freckling from poor storage. 95% original nickel finish with blue on the screws starting to fade. Wood has sharp checkering with handling marks and dings. Good bore and mechanics. Rifle has great appearance.
