PISTOL WITH STOCK HOLSTER. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 397384. Bbl. 5 1/2". C96 semi-automatic pistol originally mfg. by Mauser under contract for the Imperial German military and subsequently reworked after the conclusion of World War I. The top flat of the faceted breech is marked with Mauser's standard 3-line mfg. information, with the S# marked on the left quarter flat, and a double crowned "U" commercial proof stamped on the left flat. Right flat of bbl. extension is marked with a military acceptance proof, preceded by a vertically stamped Eagle/SU4 proof, denoting rework by Simson. Frame and bbl./bbl. extension exhibit an arsenal reapplied rust blue finish, with the bolt being polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece grooved wood grips. Blade front sight, with tangent rear sight, graduated 50-1000. All numbers are matching and include the frame, floorplate, trigger, lock frame, hammer, sear, locking block, bbl./bbl. extension, bolt, bolt stop, as well as the grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: non-matching wood stock holster. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their period arsenal reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some areas of wear that show through to gray and brown patinas, some superficial handling marks, as well as some scattered spots of light to mild surface oxidation. Frame exhibits moderate oxidation and pitting beneath the grips. Bright bore, exhibiting consistent mild pitting, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips exhibit some smoothing, as well as some scattered marks and minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Stock holster exhibits scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with a large crack present on the sides of the body. Metal fittings exhibit oxidation overall. (24-5589/MLW).
