DIAMOND ENCRUSTED OAK LEAVES & SWORDS FOR THE
GERMAN KNIGHT’S CROSS OF THE IRON CROSS. This is a superb and exquisitely crafted solid platinum oak leaves and swords for Germany’s highest military bravery award, The Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. The platinum oak leaves and swords are completely encrusted with over 50 faceted diamonds, giving the award unparalleled brilliance and eye appeal. This is a 1957 cased award made for a recipient of this prestigious decoration, who was awarded it during WWII. The black leather case has a black velvet interior with a cream silk pillow. The top of the interior has a section of Knight’s Cross ribbon, highlighting the presentation of this award. There are no marks on the award or the box. The oak leaves, swords, and diamonds were acquired by a Colonel Moore, who was stationed at the War Crimes Penitentiary in Landsberg, Germany. He collected WWII memorabilia throughout Germany after WWII. The award was purchased directly by our consignor in 1967 from Colonel Moore. A truly exceptional example of one of the world’s most coveted and recognized military awards. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION: a 1-page letter from the consignor recalling the story of how the platinum oak leaves, swords, and diamonds award was obtained after the Dallas gun show of 1967. The letter also gives a brief history of how the award was obtained in Germany. CONDITION: the oak leaves, swords, and diamonds are in superb condition. The box shows very light wear, as does the ribbon. The silk pad has the slightest evidence of soiling and has a deep impression of the award in the pad. (02-20193/BF). $5,000-8,000.
