1) This document measures 8" x 8" & is on gray paper. The document is titled, “Chief Engineer’s Office AT July 9 1864”. The document is addressed, “Captain A.W. Gloster Commdg Pontoniers AT Captain”. The order states, “General Johnston directs that you will with your present command remain and, if practicable, tonight either save or destroy the pontoon boats now in the river. In any event you will report by daybreak tomorrow (10th) to Major Green Commd’g 3rd Regt Eng Troops at or near Atlanta for further orders.” The letter is signed, “Very Respectfully S.W. Presstman Lt. Col + Chf Engr AT”.
2) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on faded blue lined paper. The document is titled, “Head Qr’s 3D Regt Eng Troops Near Atlanta GA July 13 1864.”. The document reads, “General Order No 3” & relays to all company commanders that the bimonthly morning reports will be submitted on the 8th & 18th of each month & that the monthly ordnance reports & engineering property reports will be submitted on the 28th of each month. Order is signed, “By Order of J.W. Green Major Commdg Percy Roberts Adjutant”.
3) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on white paper. The document has a printed title that reads, “Head-Quarters 3D Regiment Engineer Troops. 1864.”. Hand written in is, “Near Atlanta July 19th”. The document is addressed, “Captain A.W. Gloster Commdg Co “C” Eng Troops Captain”. The document reads, “Major Green directs that you and your command to the Macon railroad and encamp it as near Atlanta as can be conveniently done. You will select a point as near Capt Cobb as possible who is also ordered to move to the Macon railroad.”. Document is signed, “Very Respectfully Percy Roberts Adjutant”.

The document reads, “You will proceed with your command to East Point, without a moments delay. By order of J.W. Green Major Commanding Percy Roberts Adjt.”

The document is addressed, “Capt A W Gloster Commdg Co C Eng AT Capt.”. The document reads, “I have heard nothing from you in reply to my order of the 19th. Relative to moving your command as near Atlanta as you could accomplish, on the Macon Railroad. I now desire your train to be hitched up, ready to move at a moments notice. Respectfully J. W. Green Maj Commdg”.
6) This document measures 8" x 6" & is on white paper. The document has a printed is title that reads, “Department East Tennessee, Engineer’s Office.”. Handwritten in is, “Atlanta Ga July 23rd 1864”. The document is addressed, “Capt. A.W. Gloster Commdg Compy Pontoniers AT”. The document orders Gloster to move from his present camp to the McDonongh Street Road & locate the new camp as near to the city as possible. Document is signed, “Very Respectfully, S.W. Presstman Lt Col + Chf Eng AT”.
7) This document measures 10" x 8" & is on white paper. The document has a printed title that reads, “Head-Quarters 3D Regiment Engineer Troops. 1864.”. Hand written in is, “Atlanta Ga July 24th”. The document is addressed, “Captain A. W. Gloster Commdg Co C Eng Troops Captain”. The document instructs Gloster to locate a missing horse belonging to Major W. B. Brockett that was lost by him & is believed to be w/ somebody from Company C. If found please return him to Head Quarters. Document is signed, “Very Respectfully Percy Robert Adjutant”.
8) This document measures 5" x 8" & is on white lined paper. The document is titled, “Engineer Office AT August 10 1864”. The document is addressed, “Capt A. W. Gloster Commdg Eng Troops AT Captain” & reads, “Capt. Gloster will without delay report to Major General G.W. Smith to take charge of the work on his front. Lieutenant Davies, now with Gen’l Smith will report to you for duty.”. Document is signed, “Very Respectfully S.W. Presstman Lt Col Eng Troops”. Historic Note: Many of these documents contain unknown facts about the Battle of Atlanta. CONDITION: paper is generally in solid condition. There are no notable tears in the documents.
