DWM 1916 NAVY LUGER SEMI-AUTO PISTOL & HOLSTER.

Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 4261a. Bbl. 6" w/ full matching number, fin shaped sight, Marine proofed & "1917" on sight base. Mfg. 1917 (over chamber) w/ correct features & proofs to include large head rear toggle pivot; approx 15,000 units S# 1-5000a. Strawed small parts & appropriate internal areas in the white. Marine proofs on left front of receiver plus "1917" on left front of frame rail. All numbered metal parts are matching; extractor, takedown lever & sideplate on undersides plus receiver on recoil lug (firing pin & rear toggle pivot not numbered). Checkered wood grips numbered 1 on left & unreadable mark on right. MAGS: 1 correct tin plated 8 rd. w/ coating of clear finish which removed in test area gave close to near excellent appearance. Wood base w/out concentric circles in dimples (normal on some Navies) plus crown M proof & number that quickly appears to be 1261 yet first 1 might be light 4 as it is NOT identical to last 1. Doesn't reliably function hold open latch; an extruded mag. worked fine. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: fair to good holster adorned (upside down) w/ silver wreath as used above visor of officer's hat. Buckle & strap retention, lift strap, front mag. pouch & double belt loops on back having user applied sm. holes for unknown stitching. Missing loading tool pouch & cleaning rod holder; stitching holes remain. Crown anchor on front at top under flap & between belt loops on back along w/ oval containing "JOH. HUBER" / "SATTLEREI" / "MUNCHEN". CONDITION: good appearance w/ mottled tone to finish as most of pistol was coated w/ clear preservative or shellac; much has been cleaned off. Typical high point wear from holstering & functioning. Peppery oxidation in grip area & general beginning patina tone. Faded straw colors w/ staining. Right grip screw slot noticeably damaged. Sharp profiles & markings uncommonly; appears to be original finish. Good to very good grips w/ light hand wear plus right feels somewhat loose. Fair bore w/ wear & even moderate pitting. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Jack Verret Sr. (22-864/NW). CURIO. $2,500-4,000.
