ATTRIBUTED TO LT. JOHANN STUBEN 58th OVI WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 32, S# 2094. This revolver is standard early production made late 1861, S# 2122 is last gun made 1861, 5" barrel. Identification is made by portion of old ink tag paste it to belt loop of holster with a more recent transcription which appears original and reads: "Smith & Wesson revolver of Second Lieutenant Johann Steuben 58th Ohio volunteer infantry". Johan "John" Stuber (1838-1896) born in Switzerland, enlisted October 1, 1861 in Columbus, OH as corporal. Co. A, 58th OVI, promoted sergeant, November 1863, and 2nd lieutenant May 3, 1865. He was Mustered Out on 9/16/1865 at Vicksburg, MS. Lt. Stuber was run over by a "Clifton Electric Car" March 17, 1896 & died 3 days later from injuries sustained, buried in Cincinnati. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: file of research and service and pension records. CONDITION: good to very good overall, all matching, gray metal with traces of original blue finish, good markings, varnished rosewood grips are sound. Mechanically fine, good rifled bore. Holster is supple, well worn. PROVENANCE: Lifelong collection of Robert "Mike" Bricker. (01-24956/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
