COUNTY RIFLE. Cal. 38 rifled. NSN. Bbl. 39" signed “SB” in script. Overall length 55". Stock made from curly maple & a 4 piece engraved patchbox w/ 8 piercings & a bird finial, which is very much like the birds used by John Noll in Franklin County. Percussion lock is signed “J. ROOP” who worked in Bellefonte, PA 1800-1840. Rifle has 10 silver inlays, brass toeplate, saddle plate & comb inlay. Incised carved forward & rear of cheekpiece. Sam Baum worked in New Berlin. CONDITION: a brass plate has been inlet at toe on left hand side & the incised carving covered has been engraved onto the repair, otherwise the gun appears clean & solid throughout.
