EARLY POST-WAR BROWNING GRADE 2 (PIGEON) ENGRAVED
AND SIGNED BY FELIX FUNKEN. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 38272. (1954). Bbls. 26 3/8"marked for "IC" & "Mod". Top bbl. is only marked w/ St. Louis, Missouri address & fitted w/ slightly raised matted ventilated rib. Coin finished action is fitted w/ unplated single selective trigger & engraved in usual Grade 2 or "pigeon"fashion w/ a pair of pigeons in flight in a field of sm. scroll on both sides. Bottom of action engraved w/ semi relief rose bouquets flanked by more scroll. Fences are nicely relief carved in oak leaf & acorn motif. Most Pigeon grade Brownings were not signed by the engraver but this early gun is signed "F. Funken" at rear on both sides. Lightly marbled European walnut long tang rnd. knob buttstock measures 14 1/4" over horn Browning buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Field forend matches well. Bore diameters: left - .723, right - .723. Restriction: left - .021 (Mod), right - .009 (IC). Minimum wall thickness: left - .049, right - .050. DAH: 2 3/8". DAC: 1 5/8". WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 11 oz. CONDITION: fine, as refinished. Bbls. retain nearly all of a quality reblue w/ some scattered scratches & silvering at muzzles. Coin finish of action cleaned w/ remnants of light frosting on bottom & darkening on sides. There are some remnants of light frosting on trigger guard bow. Stocks retain nearly all of a well done varnish refinish w/ only a few subsequent marks. Checkering recut & darkened. Bores are shiny throughout. Action is tight. Mechanically fine. (20-848/MGM101).
