This chronometer, in its mahogany double casing, is also known as a "Deck Watch". It is wound by a step in the fashion of a pocket watch, instead of using a key. The brass watch mounted in a gimbal, in a mahogany case, has a two-piece lid w/ one viewing window. The movement is marked inside "Father Time / Elgin, ILL, U.S.A / 21 Jewels". The face of the watch is marked in Roman numerals & has a second sweep hand as well as a remaining time indicator. The small brass plate on the front of the case marked "ELGIN". The internal wooden case measures approx. 5" x 5" x 5 1/4". The padded mahogany outer case measures approx. 9 1/2" wide including mounting flange, is 7 1/2" long & approx. 7 3/4" tall. The front of this case has a white plastic "ELGIN NATIONAL WATCH COMPANY" logo. CONDITION: outer case has light wear & scattered handling marks. Inner case in notably better condition. Brass brace that holds the cover is partially detached. Brass parts have been cleaned & have a bright appearance. Movement appears very bright, clean & serviceable. Paper label has been removed from inner case, leaving scratches & remnants. (02-23726/RW). NON-GUN. $400-600.
