This small chronometer is also known as a "Deck Watch" & was mfg. by the Elgin National Watch Company. The movement inside is marked "Father Time / Elgin / ILL. / U.S.A. / 21 JEWELS / Safety Barrel". The watch has brass construction. The face, which has Roman numerals. Also includes a sweep second hand & a time-left indicator. The inner mahogany case measures 5 1/8" in all dimensions & features a two-piece top w/ a viewing window. The outer case, also of mahogany, is padded inside w/ a blue cloth. This case measures approx. 9" x 7.5" x 7 3/5" tall. The base has a wooden flange to allow it to be fastened w/ brackets to a horizontal surface. Case has a 1 1/2" diameter. White Elgin watch company insignia w/ a serial number. CONDITION: the outer case has light wear w/ scuffing, staining w/ a slightly opened seam on the top right as viewed from the front. The inner case has light wear & handling marks. Brass parts are turning patina w/ a spotted appearance. The movement internally is very clean & appears serviceable. (02-23727/RW). NON-GUN. $400-600.
