11th CENTURY WITH A STONE AXE HEAD. This sword measures 43 1/4" overall with a 36 3/4" blade. The simple crossguard measures 8" across, and the semi-circular pommel measures 2 1/4" at its widest point. According to information provided by the consignor, the sword was found in 2009 in Haitabuh Lake in Germany. The lake is, of course, freshwater, therefore the state of preservation of the sword is quite good. Photographs are included that show two swords shortly after they were recovered from the bottom of the lake. Further images show the remains of an old Viking village of about 1,000 to 1,500 people. The sword is currently housed in a simple custom-made case. Included with the sword is a dark gray stone axe head measuring 5 1/8" x 2 1/2". "We do not guarantee the age or 3rd party details provided with this sword." UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: photographs & images of the sword and the locale where it was found. Information about the sword and the general area where it was recovered. CONDITION: the sword has an overall oxidized patina but appears to be quite solid. The case has a few minor breaks. The axe head has a few minor chips overall. (02-19611-17/BF). $1,800-2,600.
