EXEMPLARY GERMAN EAGLE MARKED G43 8MM RIFLE.
Cal. 8mm. S# 2229c. Bbl. 22". The Gewehr 43 (G43) shares many similarities w/ the Karbiner 43 (Kar43) & even the Soviet M1940 Tokarev rifle. It was mfg. in lg. quantities & aesthetics were not a point of order in this particular build. It was mfg. from rough stampings, castings & forgings & machining operations only took place when absolutely necessary. Though they all were standard w/ a scope mt. to accommodate the ZF41 1.5X optic, there were many variables in relation to the bolt carrier latch which may be found on the left side, or the right side of the bolt carrier, w/ some examples not having one at all. This particular example features the handle on the left side w/ the catch on the right. The G43 functions w/ a short piston gas operation system bleeding excessive pressure approx. 12" from the muzzle. The piston operates on the Tappet principal striking the operating rod, which extends rearward into the receiver, where the energy is utilized to eject & extract the spent cartridge. This particular example has a full length, hardwood stock w/ an attractive orange/red grain tone. The heat shield between the front trunnion & the muzzle appears to be a dark brown bakelite type material which was not uncommon in this configuration. The muzzle is threaded & still retaining the thread protector & a replacement cleaning rod extending into stock is also present. Hooded front sight blade & rear tangent sight are marked from 100m to 1200m. There are several interesting markings including several that bear matching numbers. The stock & receiver are matching as well as the charging mechanism. The bolt group also has matching numbers in electric pencil. This particular variant utilizes the desirable milled action cover. Both stock & receiver share the German eagle w/ code 214. The scope mount, an aftermarket offering, mates correctly & retains the “GW ZF 4” scope marked “dow / 2787”, also includes “FEST” & “LOSE” engraving & German eagle w/ 214 on base. Currently sporting a thin leather sling on left side of rifle. MAGS: 1 original factory marked w/ WaAB43 waffenamt & “aye” factory code. CONDITION: the attractive laminated hardwood stock bears a few light impressions typical of armory storage. There is also a sm. area rear of the receiver on the left side where a 1.75" crack is present, as well as a crack on the right side that had been repaired. Below the ejection port is another crack, spanning approximately 8” that had been repaired. The optical sight is a bit cloudy & the heavy, bold reticle has succumb to some fading. Original finish on exposed metal surfaces still largely intact & complete. Bore has succumbed to some heavy pitting & is dark. While the fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand, upon close examination the small op-rod guide at the rear of the gas cylinder has been broken, which could cause the op-rod to misalign under live fire. (21-2464/JZ). CURIO. $1,500-2,000
