SEMI- AUTOMATIC CARBINE. Cal. 22 LR. S# NSN. A total of 87 manufactured. 1966-1967 by Dick Casull, who designed the famous 454 Casull cartridge & was co-founder of Freedom Arms. All were hand built & very costly when produced. MSRP in the mid 1960's was over $1,000. which was definitely one of the most expensive firearms on the market at the time. Similar in appearance to the feeding style of the Lewis Machine Gun & the predecessor to the much more common American 180 rifle. Fires from open bolt & fed from drum mounted on top of receiver. It employees a unique bolt face w/ raised vertical bar striking cartridge rims on 2 edges at once for more reliable ignition. Finned 16 1/2" bbl. w/ built up portion at front similar in appearance to Cutts compensator, w/out slots. Stock set similar in style to M1 Thompson SMG w/ grooved horizontal forend, finger grooved pistol grip & push button removable buttstock w/out buttplate; all walnut. Rear sight consists of an adjustable peep receiver sight, similar in appearance to those used on Belgium Browning's mounted onto grooved rail at rear. Front sight is simple post at center of drum above its pivot. MAGS: 1 approx. 290 rd. pan drum. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 38" foam lined, plastic transport case. CONDITION: very good overall appearance w/ dark bluing. Coverage complete & consistent w/ very gentle thinning on some high spots under close inspection. Matte finish on drum. Some light handling marks & impressions on stock set; mostly on toe line of buttstock. Near excellent bore. Extremely rare firearm w/ very high capacity. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (24-1878/JZ). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
