EXTREMELY SCARCE COLT MODEL 1905 MARINE CORPS.
DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER WITH USMC HOLSTER. Cal 38 Colt. S# 563. Bbl. 6". 1 of only 926 Model 1905 double action revolvers mfg. by Colt and purchased by the Marine Corps. between 1905-1909. This example, mfg. circa. 1906, is marked "COLT D.A. 38" on the left side of the bbl., with Colt's mfg. information above "PATENTED AUG.5.1884 NOV.6.88. MAR.5.95." marked across the top. Left side of frame exhibits the encircled Rampant Colt logo, with "U.S./ M.C./ No/ 563" marked on the butt. Major metal components exhibit a lustrous blue finish, with the trigger and hammer exhibiting a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Assembly number "549" in stamped on the frame and cyl. crane. Cyl. assembly number does not match. Interior of grip panels exhibit a matching S# to the frame that is handwritten in pencil. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: scarce correct brown leather holster embossed "USMC" within an oval on the closure flap. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray and brown patinas, some scattered handling marks, as well as some scattered spots/areas of light surface oxidation and pitting. Mirror bore, exhibiting a few small spots of pitting towards the muzzle, and retaining well defined rifling throughout. Action indexes and locks up properly. Grips exhibit some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting age related cracking and crazing overall, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. Toe plug is not present. The Model 1905 Marine Corps. revolvers saw hard use, with few of the original 926 produced remaining today. Desirable alone, this revolver paired with an original Model 1905 holster, makes for an extremely attractive ensemble for the advanced Colt and/or USMC collector.
