"S/42" CODE P.08 POLICE LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Para. S# 9899e. Bbl. 4". One of only an approximate 600 P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistols, mfg. by Mauser in 1935 procured for police use. The bbl. extension is marked with the clandestine "G" (1935) date over the chamber, with Mauser Eagle/63 acceptance proofs stamped on the right. Toggle is marked with Mauser's "S/42" mfg. code. Major metal components exhibit a blue finish, with some smaller components exhibiting either a straw or nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard blade front sight, with V-notch rear sight. Bbl. extension has been fitted with a sear safety. Nearly all numbered parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever and bar, hold-open latch, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, rear toggle pin, as well as the grips. Aluminum bottom mag. is mismatched (S# 8299s). MAGS: one 8-rd. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some light wear and thinning on the bbl. and grip straps, with some light superficial handling marks and scattered flecks of light surface oxidation present overall. Front grip strap exhibits a dent that does not appear to affect serviceability. Sides of bbl. at muzzle exhibit some wear and thinning that show through to silvering. Strawed and nitre blue parts show some light wear, with a few scattered spots of age-related discoloration. Near mirror bore, exhibiting scattered spots of very light surface-level pitting while retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some scattered nicks to the diamonds, but otherwise are very good overall. An extremely high-condition example of a scarce Mauser "G" date police Luger.
