Early Stevens Ideal Model 47 ''Modern Range'' Single Shot Rifle, #7233, .32-40 Win. cal., 30'' part-round part-octagon blue finish barrel, drilled and tapped for scope blocks, with windage adjustable graduated vernier tang sight and windage adjustable aperture front globe sight in dovetail mount; top barrel flat is marked ''J. STEVENS A. & T. CO''. The early No. 44 action is case colored with a single trigger and loop lever; trigger pull is just under 2 lbs. Checkered stock and Schnabel forend are red-toned tiger stripe walnut, finished in a semi-gloss lacquer, with an ''S''-curve pistol-grip base and case colored Swiss style buttplate; weight is 9-7/8 lbs. Mfg'd ca. 1900. Condition is very fine retaining a tight action and bright bore with distinct rifling. Barrel blue remains approx. 98% with thinning around the lettering and octagon corners, with areas of faint oxidation. Case colors are 80% with fading on the buttplate, high edges and other handling areas. Frame has scattered freckling with light corrosion on the upper and lower tangs; muzzle and front sight have traces of brown oxidation. Receiver takedown screw is marred from tightening the barrel and the buttplate screws are mismatched. Stock finish and checkering pattern have scattered nicks and scratches but appear to be original underneath layers of old preservative. Est.: $2,000-$3,000. (C&R)
