Martini-Enfield single-shot. Falling block action. British Military issue. Left side of receiver marked crown V.R.. Enfield, 1896 (Year re-barreled to .303) M.E. 303, and a.c. I (Artillery Carbine Mk 1) .The left side of the markings are very feint with some of it unreadable. The original MH markings on the right receiver are worn out with only the feint Crown, 'VR', and 'II' visible. 21' Barrel with open sights, raised blade front. and ladder rear. Blued metal finish. Straight, smooth wood stock, and forearm, with sling swivels,steel buttplate, front barrel band incorporates the bayonet lug and cleaning rod. Brass Unit identity disc, dated '10-01' on right side of lower stock, unit marked '2.LL' over '5'. Other British proofs present on stock. he right side of the barrel chamber is stamped with crown/BV, BP and NP proofs and marked "NITRO PROVED", the left chamber chamber is stamped "Reg. Trade Mark with symbol of a key with X", could noy find any reference to this. Short lock lever to the rear of triggerguard. Thumb rest on the top , right of receiver. Cocking indicator on right receiver. Action performs well, Bore is very good, strong rifling, retains most of the finish, scattered light pin-prick pitting, wood is good sound with scratches/dents. The Martini–Enfield saw service with Australian colonial forces during the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902).
