Rare British military magazine fed bolt action service rifle chambered in .303 British. Produced 1894-96. This one manufactured 1896. Features a blued finish, 30.2" barrel, protected ramped blade front sight, ladder type rear sight, volley sights, two barrel bands, front band incorporating bayonet lug,sling swivel missing cleaning rod, serrated trigger, detachable magazine, magazine cut off on the right side of the receiver, dust cover and manual safety on the bolt, bridge on receiver for stripper clip loading, smooth wood hand guard, full length forend, and straight grip shoulder stock with brass trapdoor buttplate. The right side of the butt socket is marked '[crown]/VR/Enfield/18949/LE/I' and the buttplate is marked "broad arrow/EFD/63'. The barrel is marked 'E' over the chamber,British proofs. Rifle retains a nice blued finish on the receiver while the rest of the rifle displays a mostly brown patina with some blue on the bolt, receiver, and magazine, scattered light pin-prick pitting. Action is smooth, bore is very good/bright, good rifling, and the wood stock is good with many blemishes. Matching serial number on receiver, barrel, mismatched bolt. Right butt stock has an Enfield cartouche with "L" "I" under it. There is an old label, turned brown with age, typed, ".303 Lee Metford Mark I Adopted Jan. 1892." No import marks.
