Engraved Antique Sharps & Hankins Model 3B Spurtrigger Four-Barrel Pepperbox Pistol, in wood case, #11379, .32 Short RF cal., 3.5'' barrel group having a small German silver blade sight marked in top flute, ''Address Sharps & Hankins, Philadelphia, Penn.'' in one line; frame having a small-groove rear sight and integral gripstraps marked on right side, ''Sharps Patent/Jan. 25, 1859'' in two lines; hammer with unique rotating striker; one-piece varnished rosewood grips. Knurled round button on left side releases barrel group to slide forward for cartridge loading/manual extraction. Mfg'd ca. 1859-74. Barrel, frame and backstrap are engraved in floral and ''rope'' patterns with a fine punch-dot background on frame, and pistol is finished in full silver plating. Condition is excellent retaining virtually all of what appears to be original silver plate. Grips are smooth with a few minor handling marks and a small chip at right bottom. All markings and engraving are sharp, screw head slots are unblemished, and visible serial numbers match. Action is smooth and crisp; bores are mostly clean with sharp rifling. Modern case of oil-finished walnut is very good showing a few minor exterior dings; the interior lined in claret velveteen is missing two partitions. An exceptional Model 3B pepperbox with its hand engraving and deluxe finish, of which only about 2,000 were mfg'd. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
