A Very Nice European Austrian Pole-arm known as a Halberd Circa mid to late 16th Century. Primarily used by foot soldiers and derived from the spike and the axe. Used offensively against cavalry throughout Europe during the 16th century and earlier. Many regional variations were used in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. This Halberd has a concave axe blade with angled rear beak featuring an upturned hook and broad 11.25& #34; leaf-shaped thrusting blade with medial ridge. It& #39;s mounted on a round pole with raised grooves and added cross straps attached with studs. The side straps are 10.5& #34; long, the pole itself is around 42& #34; long, and the overall length is 57.5& #34;. This pole has been cut down and would normally be around 85& #34; to up over 100& #34; long. Metal is lightly pitted with a small blade strike to the blade. Some of the strapping & amp; studs are missing and the pole has been cut down, but displays well. Overall in very good condition for age.
