47mm, with a palmetto tree and other South Carolina iconography on obverse, ringed by the state motto, Animis Opibusque Parati Dum Spiro Spero, the names of regimental senior officers Dickinson, Butler, and Gladden, and a banner for inscription to a particular soldier, this example being inscribed to Joseph Carter. The reverse features a Mexican-American War battle scene and the names of the sites of five significant battles in which the Palmetto Regiment fought: Vera Cruz, Contreras, Churubusco, Chapultepec, and Garita de Belen. Joseph Carter is listed as a private on the Palmtto Regiment& #39;s historical marker in Downtown Columbia, SC.
