of “The Dalles, Oregon” (near Portland) made for J.G. Bliss Vancouver, Washington territory. This rifle is in .38 caliber percussion with 30” octagon barrel of medium weight, half stock, double set triggers, finely and ornately engraved. Nicely stocked in select walnut with checkered pistol grip. The engraving is of a very high quality with stag on the patchbox, scrolls on the lock and mounts. The tang is richly engraved to match and also around semi-false muzzle. The condition is very good plus to near fine with just normal aging and minor imperfections. The makers name and owners name are both hand engraved in block letters on the center and forward portions of barrels. The best Oregon and Washington territory era plains rifle we know to exist. From the Vic Atiyeh collection. George Anderson gun maker worked for the U.S. Indian Agency before settling near Portland, Oregon. He worked for Wm Beck of Portland before locating in The Dalles in 1876 J.G. Bliss of Vancouver was obviously a wealthy
