FABULOUS CIVIL WAR TABLE MADE FROM A WAR LOG FROM

GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. This 31" high table has an oval top which measures 27 3/4" x 19". The table top and the legs appear to be made of mahogany. The front of the table top has an aluminum plaque that is engraved, "From the Bushman Farm Gettysburg 1863”. The central, large leg of this pedestal table is a section of tree often termed a "war log". This large tree used for the table measures approx. 10 1/2" in diameter. At about the midpoint, the tree was struck by a Union Hotchkiss artillery shell that now lies partially embedded in the tree. The Hotchkiss shell was likely fired from a 3" ordnance rifle or a 10 lb. Parrot rifle. CONDITION: the table could function quite well as a piece of furniture today. It is attractive, interesting and very solidly constructed. An exceptional memento from the most famous battle of the Civil War and possibly all of American history. (02-16907/BF). $5,000-8,000.
