ACTION SXS SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 Ga. S# 313. This good quality shotgun was patented in 1868 by Boyd & Tyler in Boston, MA. & was one of the first breech loading shotguns made in America. This good example has 28" twist steel bbls. which rotate on central spindle to open. Heavy monobloc breech section is fitted w/ locking hooks, & sliding extractors. Rib at rear marked "F. E. Boyd & P. S. Tyler" & w/ 1868 patent dates. Top strap of breech action section has thumb slide to allow bbls. to rotate for loading & extracting when aligned w/ bottom of gun. Action fitted w/ back spring isolated locks w/ deeply chamfered hammers. Straight grip American walnut stock measures 14 1/8" over Parkers dog's head buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip & on forend which attaches to bbl. set w/ a screw. CONDITION: good. Bbl. is nearly all smooth brown patina w/ twist pattern visible. Other metal lightly cleaned w/ some remaining case hardening color. Stocks w/ old finish have quite a few marks. Buttplate a replacement. Very good shiny bores, lightly frosted. Action & locks work well, except sometimes action jams when left firing pin does not rebound. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19271/MGM). ANTIQUE. $600-900.
