SHOTGUN ESSENTIALLY "AS FOUND". Cal. 12 Ga. S# 15454 (ca. 1910). Bbl. 30" w/ broad matted rib, marked “Krupp Fluid Steel Made By” “A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila PA” on tops. There are 1 1/2" triangles of simple scroll at breech ends. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ grade & S#, polished sides & cocking slide are damascened. Krupp steel marks are on bottoms of bbls. Case hardened Fox type boxlock action features automatic safety (“Safe” inlaid in gold), rotary locking bolt & dbl. triggers. Action is engraved in early C style w/ about 30% scroll w/ in wavy line & geometric borders surrounding bird scenes on sides. Walking quail on left & snipe on right. “ANSLEY H. FOX” is on band above each scene. A pointing setter is in circular vignette on bottom of action & trigger plate is scroll engraved. Blued trigger guard w/ scroll on bow has S# on tang. Very attractive dark, nicely figured & streaked, European walnut, Fox capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 1/2" over possibly original early Silver pad. Grip & side panels are checkered & a vacant silver shield is on toeline. Matching splinter forend is near fully checkered & has Deeley release. Ejectors are of early type w/ lg. dia. pins & lg. trips. Iron is marked “PATENTS” above S# & “PENDING” under. MEASUREMENTS: BORE DIA.: Left .726. Right .0726. BORE RESTRICTIONS: Left .037 Full. Right .037 Full. WALL THICKNESS: Left .038. Right .039. DAH: 3". DAC: 1 1/2". Neutral Cast. WEIGHT: 8 lbs 4 oz. CONDITION: very fine, mostly original as found. Bbls. retaining approx. 90% original blue w/ some silvering on sharp edges & some scattered light marks. Action retains over 80% original case hardening color, faded & silvering around bottom & on sides of fences & w/ some scattered freckling mostly on left side. Trigger guard has about half of its original blue. Stocks retain most of their original finish w/ a fair scattering of marks & a few fairly deep rubs, mostly on right side of butt. Rear portion of butt shows considerable loss of varnish & oil darkening associated w/ fitting of recoil pad which is considerably crazed & definitely petrified. Checkering lightly worn, has not been recut. There is some cracking at rear of forend associated w/ grain structure & appears to be stable. Bores are very fine, bright & shiny throughout w/ no noted problems. Action is tight. Ejectors in time. (21-2925/MGM). CURIO. $3,000-5,000.
