KNIFE SHEATH & KNIFE. 10” x 2.75”, sinew sewn on bridle leather, rarely seen combination of both bead & tack decoration on sheath. ¾” black and white beaded decoration around circumference of throat below folded leather reinforcement, 1”
navy blue, black, white-heart red, greasy yellow, and sky blue edge along sewn edge with 4 diagonal bands of black & white stripes, opposite side has 21 rows of three tacks along sewn edge. Pewter bolster and pommel handmade hunting knife 10.5” overall, 6” curved skinner blade. This knife & sheath from the Floyd Ritter collection pictured on page 3 of John Baldwin’s 1997 text “EARLY KNIVES & BEADED SCABBARDS OF THE AMERICAN FRONTIER”. CONDITION: very good overall, missing 2 tacks, heavy white corrosion/patina to pewter knife mounts. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18356/JS). $600-800.
