EJECTOR DANGEROUS GAME DOUBLE RIFLE. Cal. 470 Nitro Express. S# 10526 (circa 1912). The 28" chopperlump bbls. are fitted with full length file cut rib, central area swamped forming front sight base. A 1-standing 2-folding leaf express rear sight with platinum lines is dovetailed through. Front ramp holds small silver bead with flip up night bead and sight protector. Tops of bbls. are engraved "William Evans. 63 Pall Mall. St. James's. London." on right & ".470 - 3 1/4 Solid Metal Case 75 GRs Cordite 500 GRn Bullet" on left. Bbl. flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for the same load. Bottom rib is fitted with sling loop soldered on. Case hardened PHV-1 boxlock action features automatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), pivoting third fastener engaging cloverleaf rib extension, bushed strikers & double triggers. Action is engraved with about 60% coverage well cut scroll within line & small scroll borders. "WILLIAM EVANS" is on both sides. Blued top lever, floorplate & trigger guard are engraved with matching scroll. Serial number is on trigger guard tang which extends to case hardened grip cap. Capped pistol grip buttstock of very attractively marbled and lightly figured European walnut, measures 15 1/8" over tan leather covered pad. Stock features drop points, point pattern checkering, matching sling loop & a vacant silver oval. Matching short splinter ejector forend has forward pivoting lever release. CONDITION: very fine as completely refinished & most likely refurbished (work is of London quality). Bbls. retaining essentially all of a reblack. Engraving has been restored, rib rematted. Action has been re-casecolored & other associated parts reblued. Engraving remains strong. Stock exhibits essentially all of a hand rubbed oil refinish over some remaining marks & with one or two subsequent marks. Checkering recut. Forend wood is a very well done replacement with correctly matching checkering. Bores are very fine, shiny with strong rifling throughout, with perhaps a touch of throat erosion in right bbl. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Ejectors are slightly out of time. A fine classic big bore double in one of the best available all purpose calibers, with remarkably fine bores. (22-3313/MGM). CURIO. $15,000-20,000.
