FIONA CAPSTICK: One-Of-A-Kind Peter Hathaway Capstick Personal Publication & Signed/Numbered Guy Coh
This handsome, limited edition royal folio monograph on the five surviving species of rhinoceros, comprising twenty full-page, full-colour paintings, numerous sketches, outstanding distribution maps and dynamic text is one of the great and increasingly sought-after books for any library devoted to wildlife. The fact that this impressive tome was copy number one of three pre-publication copies especially prepared for the author, esteemed Italian conservationist, Francesco Nardelli, that this is noted in the book and that it carries not only Nardelli's signature but also a signed, dated letter of authentication immediately renders this book unique among the 315 copies produced. The noted, prize-winning British-born wildlife artist, Matthew Hillier, was commissioned for all the artwork and the book was printing by The Basilisk Press of London in 1988. The critically endangered Sumatran, Javan and Indian rhinoceroses joined their Black and White rhinoceros counterparts in this exceptional work of erudition, passion and dedication. John Aspinall, the renowned private zoo park entrepreneur in Britain, describes this ambitious monograph in his Foreword as 'this wonderful but sad book" and he goes on to speak of 'a book of such unusual quality for a market so small, and for an animal so little appreciated and so savagely abused.' Nardelli's extraordinary eulogy to the surviving rhino species of the world is further enhanced by framed, original, signed sketches of the black rhino by the world-renowned American wildlife artist, Guy Coheleach, who was especially commissioned for this purpose. A copy of the 1988 Peter Hathaway Capstick Hunting Heritage Award video is included as it features the recipient of the Award, the late Dr Ian Player, the driving force behind the saving of the white rhino from extinction in South Africa. A copy of his obituary has also been included. Peter CAPSTICK's bookplate further enhances the provenance of this work - a royal folio salute to the rhino of our world, housed in a solander, custom-crafted in Rome specifically for the author.
