LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38 WCF. S# 17978. Bbl. 24 1/4". Model 1892 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester during the 1892's very first year of production. The top flat of the octagonal bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. information, with "38 W.C.F." marked at the breech. Plain wood straight grip buttstock with plain wood forend. Brass tipped blade front sight with semi-buck horn V-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components exhibit heavy wear (with some of the markings having been partially or mostly worn away) and a dark gray patina, with scattered spots of oxidation and light to mild pitting present overall. Dark pitted bore, exhibiting fair to good rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with chipping present on the rear edge of the forend, at and around the receiver tangs, as well as around the buttplate. Buttstock exhibit some losses and cracking at the toe. (01-25419/MLW). ANTIQUE. $600-1,000.
