RIFLE. Cal. 44. NSN. 38 5/8" octagon bbl. w/ U-notch rear & brass blade front sights is unmarked. Trade percussion lock is marked "Joh Golcher" & stamped w/ engraving. Dbl. set triggers are fitted. Classic style Roman nose stock of plain dark stained maple extends to muzzle w/ 1 1/4" brass cap. Stock is brass mounted. Rounded trigger guard has long spur forming grip. Sm. crescent buttplate has 4" return. Sideplate is lozenge shaped. There is a guard on lip of sm. classic cheekpiece. Brass wear plate at forend is nicely shaped. Hickory ramrod is held by 2 beaded pipes & matching thimble. CONDITION: good, original as found. Iron parts w/ overall brown patina. Brass nicely toned. Stock shows very attractive hand wear through dark finish, mostly from carrying at forend area w/ some lightening at grip & on comb. There are a number of old cracks through butt. There is wood loss at top of lock, both at front & behind percussion drum. Set triggers & lock are operable. This gun has great lines & appearance. A consignor's note on tag states "As found in Lewisburg Penna." PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19636/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
